architecture career

I received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Maryland in the spring of 2008 . Following my undergraduate education, I worked for three years at Zavos Architecture+Design (ZA+D) in Frederick, Maryland. At ZA+D I was exposed to a variety of project types including single-family residential, multifamily senior housing, commercial and office buildings, institutional facilities, and K-12 schools. As my internship progressed I was given more responsibilities and I was able to spend ample time with clients, consultants, and contractors. Through this experience I completed the required hours for the Intern Development Program (IDP) in my pursuit of becoming a registered architect.

I am a self-motivated individual which is evident in my proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Revit software. I have over five years of experience using the most current release of Revit software and have successfully lead a professional office in the transition from a CAD-based to a Revit-based office standard. During this transition I also demonstrated leadership by assisting colleagues with in-house software training and working with consultants on model integration.

I value continuing education and staying current with new building products and technology. I became a LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction (LEED AP BD+C), attended certification courses for Passive House design, and became an Associate member of the American Institute of Architects (Assoc. AIA).

In 2011, I returned to the University of Maryland to continue my academic studies in the Master of Architecture program. My master’s thesis is titled, Sustainable Placemaking: Restoring the Vitality of Underutilized Infrastructure. I am investigating pertinent design issues faced by today's design professionals - sustainable urban development and the adaptive reuse of existing structures. I will be graduating in May 2013 with a Master of Architecture and a Certificate in Urban Design.
